The 1893 Columbian Issue
A Complete Set of Dollar Value Plate Number Blocks

Scott Nos. 241-245 The $1 .00 through $5.00 plate number bIocks of six. A remarkabIe offering of the best possibIe set of dollar value Columbian plate number blocks extant.

The $ 1.00 has full original gum, minor flaws, and is a full margin top. The $2.00 is perfectly centered with full original gum, very lightly hinged with a tiny sealed tear in the selvage, which is inconsequential as this is the finest $2.00 plate number block of the three known. The $3.00 is also perfectly centered with full original gum and is very possibly the finest example extant. I believe that there are only three or four plate number blocks of the three dollar and two of these lack gum. Ex Lilly, where it was described as having a pinpoint thin, which I do not detect and would consider inconsequential in light of its other attributes. The $4.00 block is one of three known. One of those has several flows. This block is completely sound, five of the six stomps are never hinged. The centering is near perfect. Without question this is the best centered and finest $4.00 plate number block in existence. The $5.00 plate number block is the best of the four known, being the only full top plate number block, as well as being NEVER HINGED.

This is a unique opportunity for the Philatelic connoisseur to acquire what may be the greatest set of plate number blocks in United States Philately; a chance for the most discerning collector to place his name beside those of Crocker, Green, and Lilly.
